Exclusive Interview with Manfred Linzner from Shin'en

 Shinen Multimedia

Holger Wettstein (ntower): Shin'en Multimedia is mostly known for outstanding WiiWare-Games like Jett Rocket or FAST Racing League. So, obviously Nintendo-Fans are looking forward to Nano Assault Neo for Nintendo Wii U. Maybe you could tell us something about the most important innovations of the game?

Manfred Linzner (CEO at Shin'en Multimedia): Nanon Assault Neo (NAN) is our first project for Wii U and like on every other platform, we want to have a launch title that shows what the hardware is capable of. Players should get excited for an amazing start for NAN on Wii U's eShop. NAN brings nonstop action for 1-2 players and you can transfer the game on your GamePad and continue playing on it. There are several modes, special tasks, which are called „Awards”, online-ranking and much more. On the visual site it features some stunning stages, which are all settled in the nanocosmos. NAN supports 5.1. linear PCM, which will take the player even deeper into the fascinating nano-world.

HW: Before the console is released, there are several rumors and discussions going on about the hardware of the console. Now, that you have some experience with it, what's your personal impression of what the console is capable of? Do you think, it can make a stand against the next generation of Microsoft and Sony consoles?

ML: Well, right now, the Wii U is the strongest console with a lot of potential for the future. You should not forget, that the Wii U GPU is from a different generation than the ones from the current competitors. Because of that, there are many new ways of approaching things. Which, on the one side, are easier to implement than special hybrid solutions that are currently used on the other consoles, and on the other hand, which brings with it a much better performance. In cooperation with the generous working storage you have unbelievable possibilities. You should not forget that you need developers who can actually max out the potential of a console. And with teams like Retro Studios and EAD, Nintendo has an unbeatable advantage.

HW: How did the cooperation between you and Nintendo work out while developing Nano Assault Neo? Did Nintendo let you work on your own and did they instruct you about the possibilities with the new console?

ML: Nintendo always let us work on our own, they didn't butt in. And we really appreciate that. They told us about the possibilities with the Wii U beforehand, we got a lot of information and we still get almost every day.

HW: Nano Assault Neo will be released in the eShop on Wii U. Could you already get a glimpse of the new shop system and can you tell us something about it? Will it be similar to eShop on 3DS?

ML: I'm afraid I can't talk to you about this.

HW: Can you estimate the price of Nano Assault Neo already?

ML: We will release NAN on eShop with a price which will hopefully make it a must-have for everyone.

HW: Downloadable Content, or in short DLC, is pretty popular with most publishers and developers right now. Because this way, they can still earn income, even after a game was released. Gamers are not so happy about this in some cases, though. What do you think about DLC and can we expect some for Nano Assault Neo?

ML: Right now, we're only thinking of making a good game, with which everyone knows what he'll get when he buys it. So DLC is not a topic right now. We would prefer to release a free update for NAN later on, which would bring new features.

HW: Nano Assault on 3DS is still not available in Europe. Can you give us any reason for that?

ML: Since the publishing rights in Europe belong to 505 games, we can't do anything when it comes to their politics of releasing games.

HW: How is development of Nano Assault EX? Can european 3DS gamers hope for that game?

ML: Yes. Development is going really well and we're trying everything to release the game this year in eShop on 3DS.

HW: As a conclusion, we'd like to ask you if you're planning to do more projects on Wii U or if you'll wait and see if Nano Assault Neo will be successful?

ML: We've got big plans for Wii U. The success of Nano Assault Neo will obviously influence our future projects.
