Vor kurzem wurden die Nominierten der diesjährigen „The Game Awards“ bekannt gegeben. In den zahlreichen Kategorien tummeln sich auch einige Nintendo-Vertreter, die von den Kritikern bereits hoch gelobt wurden. So streiten sich zum Beispiel Super Mario Odyssey und The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild mit Spielen wie Persona 5 oder Horizon Zero Dawn um den Titel „Game of the Year“. In der Kategorie „Best Handheld Game“ sind sogar ausschließlich Titel als Nominierte aufgeführt, welche auf dem Nintendo 3DS erschienen sind, wie zum Beispiel Monster Hunter Stories oder Fire Emblem Echoes. Zudem ist ARMS einer der Anwärter für „Best Fighting Game“, während Splatoon 2 und Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle ebenfalls für diverse Preise in Frage kommen.
